How The Long Table works
We are five students from Krambach Public School. People in Krambach told us they'd like more choice for dinner without everyone making the long drive to town, and more chances to catch up. So every Friday afternoon we set up a long table and chairs at the school.
Each week there's a restaurant from town on the menu, sometimes two or more, and they change from week to week. If enough of us order, a local driver collects everyone's food in heat boxes and brings it back. One trip, instead of a 60 to 80 minute round trip for every family.
The short version
- Order and pay online by the day it says.
- If 10 families order, we charge your card and the dinner goes ahead.
- If not, nobody pays and we try again next week.
- Pick up your dinner at the school on Friday.
Questions and answers
When do I pay?
You enter your card when you order, but we don't take the money straight away. Once 10 families have ordered, we charge everyone and the dinner goes ahead. If you order after that, you're charged straight away.
What if fewer than 10 families order?
Then the dinner doesn't go ahead and nobody pays anything. We'll send you a message to let you know. Your bank might show the amount as “pending” for a few days before it disappears.
Why do you need 10 orders?
Our driver pays for fuel and gives up their evening to drive to town and back. 10 orders makes the trip worth it.
Where does my money go?
The $10 delivery fee goes to the driver. The price of the food goes to the restaurant. The small card fee covers what the bank charges us to take a card payment.
Do I need an account?
No. Just type your name, mobile and email when you order. We'll email your receipt with a link to check on your order. If you have a krambach.au account, you're signed in here too.
Can I order from two restaurants on the same Friday?
Yes. Each restaurant is its own order, with its own $10 delivery fee, and each one goes ahead once 10 families have ordered from it.
Can I cancel?
Yes, from your order page, any time before the dinner goes ahead. After that the restaurant has started planning your meal, so please call us if something comes up.
Where do I pick up my dinner?
Krambach Public School, under the covered area (the COLA). If you're staying to eat, grab a seat and we'll bring your order over.
What about allergies?
The restaurant cooks the food, not us. If you have an allergy, please phone the restaurant before ordering. Their number is on the menu page.
Do I have to buy dinner to come?
Not at all. Bring your own dinner, or just come for a chat. Kids are welcome on the playground.
Is it safe to pay online?
Yes. Card payments are handled by Stripe, which is used by millions of businesses. Your card details never reach us.
